How to Answer Why Do You Want to Work Remotely in an Interview

How to Answer Why Do You Want to Work Remotely in an InterviewHow to Answer Why Do You Want to Work Remotely in an Interview2As you prepare for your job interview, there are certain types of interview questions that you should be ready to answer. Questions like, How much do you want to earn? or How does your experience make you the ideal candidate? are obvious- and often-asked- interview questions. But when it comes to a remote interview, youll inevitably be asked the question, Why do you want to work remotely? Here are some definite dos and donts on how to answer this interview question about why you want to work remotely1. Do mention the company culture. Employers arent looking to temporarily fill a slot they want to hire employees who jive with their company culture. After all, if a potential employee doesnt fit the culture, chances are he wont last long with the company. This forces anemployer to start the sourcing and hiring process all over again, which is notlagelage only time-c onsuming, but costly, both financially and emotionally. So make sure you mention that you appreciate the companys culture, such as its values, dedication to creating a green work environment, its focus on volunteering, and so on as some of your main reasons for wanting to work with the organization.2. Dont make it all about the telecommuting. Sure, the thought of not having to get dressed in a suit (or even put on form-fitting pants) is enough to make you want to break out into a happy dance, but you dont want to let a potential employer know that. He might think that the only reason you want to get a remote job is just that- its a remote job.Thats why its a good idea to not bring up the telecommuting aspect until your interviewer does. Then you can ask a question or two if you need clarification- just try not to sound too giddy that youll never have to step foot into an office3. Do stress the importance of the companys mission.Similar to appreciating a companys culture, its a good i dea to mention how much you believe in the companys mission. Maybe one of its goals is to always donate a percentage of its profits to a humanitarian cause. Whatever it might be, knowing (and liking) the companys mission means that you could not only ace the interview, but youre also more likely to grow with the company and create a career that youll love.4. Dont make it personal. The point of any job interview is not for you to just regurgitate your resume and cover letter to your interviewer. Its to give you an opportunity to establish if you are a good fit for the company, and vice versa. So showing some personality during the interview is a good idea, from personal anecdotes that relate to the question youre answering, or even mentioning where you went to school if your interviewer shares the same alma mater as you do.That said, you shouldnt answer the question of why you want to work remotely with a personal answer. You shouldnt say, I hated my three-hour daily commute and vowe d never to step on a commuter train again, or I have young children and need to work remotely so I can take care of them and work. While both are valid excuses, an employer wants you to be excited about working for his company because of the organization and the job itself, not the fact that you can work from home.5. Do talk about the advantages of remote work- for the employer. Remote work has many benefits for both employees andemployers alike. If you become flustered upon being asked why you want to work remotely, you can answer the question as it relates to the benefits that remote employers have when building a remote team. For example, apart from the reasons why you want to work for the company that arent remote-related, you can say that you believe in eco-friendly work environments and that you are eager to reduce your own carbon footprint. You can also mention that remote companies are able to hire top talent from anywhere in the world and youre eager to work on a team compri sed of global members. Both are strong answers to the question of why you want to work remotely that are professional and not personal. If you have a remote job interview, you should expect to be asked why you want to be a remote worker. Simply make sure that your reasons for wanting remote work focus more on the company- and less on being able to lose a lengthy commute- and youll ace the question and the interview with ease.

How to Write a Memorable Post-Interview Thank You Note

How to Write a Memorable Post-Interview Thank You NoteHow to Write a Memorable Post-Interview Thank You Note Imagine youve just walked out of a job interview. You made a great impression and really like your chances. Now, take it to the next level by writing a thank you note that reinforces why you are the right candidate. Here are some tips for creating the perfect follow-up noteEmail In general, email is probably the best choice. Most hiring managers check their email at least once a day and probably expect to receive thank you notes this way. Handwritten notes These are still prevalent, but you are up against the timing of snail mail. Hiring managers are finalizing their choice in the time it takes to compose, send, and receive a handwritten card. In addition, you dont know how often they are checking their mailbox since its used so rarely anymore, some offices only deliver mail once a week. However, handwritten notes can be great if you can enkoranvers quick delivery such as applying for a role at your current company or in an office next door to yours. To avoid awkwardness, just drop the note under their door or in their mail slot. LinkedIn direct messages This isnt a bad method, but again, timing may not be on your side. Remember that hiring managers may be on LinkedIn less than their business email, especially if theyve wrapped up interviewing and are done looking for candidates. If you do choose this method, make sure to keep the tone professional and construct the note the way you would any business communication. If you are going to choose a handwritten note, make sure you use quality stationary or a blank thank you card. And it should be in line with your industry bright colors and a cool design may work well for social media roles, but neat lines and simple patterns are best for something like finance. And make sure your email signature and address are professional. A great way to stand out is to personalize the note with s omething specific you discussed during the interview. As candidates, we love a personal touch to the hiring experience and so will the hiring manager Heres an exampleThank you for meeting with me to discuss the Financial Analyst role. I loved hearing about your teams objectives for the year and discussing how we both share a passion for process improvement. Our conversation reinforced my interest in the role and I look forward to hearing from you regarding this position. From there, you can wrap up with a warm closing. As you compile your note, make it conversational. To streamline the process if youre interviewing for multiple positions, create a general template, then fill in the specific pieces for each separate role.Send the note ASAP, but put some thought into it. One of the oddest things applicants do is hand the interviewer a thank you note during the interview. How can you write a thank you note if you havent been through the experience yet? This can feel disingenuous and r ushed. You want to convey that this role is important to you and you are willing to take the time to sincerely communicate with the hiring team. A common question is, should you ever not send a thank you note? 99% of the time, you should absolutely send a thank you note. Even if you no longer have an interest in the role or company, felt the interview was particularly intense, or the interviewer wasnt exactly friendly, still send the note. While you dont need to share that feedback, you still want to convey your appreciation for their time and emphasize that you enjoyed meeting them. You never know when someone may share your name with a colleague and you want to make the best impression you can. Paths To A Great Career

Paths To A Great CareerPaths To A Great CareerOn my desk at work I have a piece of art that features a quotation from Lewis Carrolls book Alices Adventures in Wonderland. I have carried this desk reizwith me to every job that I have held for the past 10 years. The excerpt goes as followsAlice Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here? The Cheshire Cat That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.Alice I dont much care where. The Cheshire Cat Then it doesnt much matter which way you go.Alice So long as I get somewhere. The Cheshire Cat Oh, youre sure to do that, if only you walk long enough.I bought this framed excerpt when I started my first post-college job and felt anxious about not knowing which career path I should be headed down. Having chosen a career and dutifully journeyed down this path, I frequently observe this same guilt and worry in the words, behaviors and expressions of my younger friends as well as colleagues. It seems to be a rite of passage f or young workers to panic at the immense possibilities that lay before them. Fear and guilt are at the forefront of their emotions as a result of not knowing what career path to pursue. At my greatest point of distress, I sought advice from the college counselor of the high school that I attended. The spitfire that she is, she pointed out that the only people who finished college knowing exactly what they wanted to do were people doing what their parents had always told them to do. Of course, her comment should be taken with a grain of salt clearly, some people do figure out their calling early in life and without the coercion of adults. However, snarky as it was, her comment was reassuring and helped to assuage the guiltiness that I was feeling during that time. Also, it encouraged me to focus my energies on figuring out my life. Now that I am older and (I can only hope) wiser, I have outlined why indecision and uncertainty early in your career is actually a good thing.1. When youre young, you have a limited understanding of what you are truly good at.In school, you typically have a sense of the subjects that you excel at and the ones that you struggle with. That being said, I believe that an internalized opinion of your strong suits is often based on other peoples positive reinforcement. In other words, you are mora likely to believe that you are good at something because someone else has confirmed it and this may drive you to pursue challenges in categories of validated success. As you progress through your career and as you are tasked with new challenges, never before undertaken (that you may not have accepted if youd held a more rigid perception of your strengths), you will get a more comprehensive sense of the spectrum of your talents. This will influence the career choices you make over time.2. A wider range of jobs exists, and more than you realized. In college, I studied Mass Communications because a career in journalism seemed the most obvious choice for someone with strong writing skills. In the end, I never fully pursued a job as a journalist- the possibility of being sent to a dangerous place on a reporting assignment frankly scared me- but I did manage to stumble upon a career in product marketing that I feel suits me very well. The point is that its okay if you leave college without the absolute mindset of I am going to be a insert profession title. Its impossible to know for sure that a specific profession is everything you dreamed it would be, or that there isnt a more suitable career option for you.Instead, remind yourself These are the things I am good at and/or interest me. Im going to look into roles that are a match to this skill set. Moreover, be open to the careers that you encounter and the ones that crop up along the way that may run contrary to what you had originally envisioned for yourself.3. Academic studies are not an exact proxy to working in real life.Few members of the Simply Hired Marketing team actually stu died marketing while in college. Team members majors includeRhetoric, Sociology, Film, Media Studies and IT.Yet,over time, we were each able to make our way into our respective marketing roles. This isnt to say that you absolutely shouldnt study a subject matter that aligns with your intended profession. Instead, remember that you are not restricted to pursuing a job in a specific field, and that strictly abiding by the narrow confines of your academic studies is often unnecessarily limiting.Study what you are passionate about, build a strong set of core skills that you can apply to a number of professions, and make informed choices throughout the course of your career.4. Its fun to explore and its something you can do, no questions asked, when you are young.Whenever I hear a young person complaining about their job, my instant response is always abrupt. If you dont like the line of work that youre in,find something more rewarding to do. At the beginning of your career path, you are not invested in a single occupation, so take advantage of the opportunity to explore. This is also a good rule of thumb to keep in mind throughout your life transitions later in your career, while more difficult, are not impossible and should be investigated if you think that they will make you happier. While its disorienting and scary to lack a career foundation, be diligent in your exploration and aggressive in your curiosity. This strategy will enable you to find the best career path.

Study finds that video games help boost productivity

Study finds that video games help boost productivityStudy finds that video games help boost productivityFour BYU information system professors reported work kollektivs to experience a 20% increase in productivity after playing video games together for just 45 minutes a day.To see that big of a jump- especially for the amount of time they played- was a little shocking, said BYU associate professor Greg Anderson. Companies are spending thousands and thousands of dollars on team-building activities, and Im thinking, go buy an Xbox. The study was based on 352 individuals. These subjects were indiscriminately organized into 80 teams. The first part of the experiment had participants compete in a geocaching competition called, Findamine. The competition presents players with text-based clues to find landmarks with the hopes of winning a cash prize. After the first round, teams were randomly assigned to commit 45 minutes to either 1. Video Games (Rock Band or Halo 4) 2. quiet homework time 3 . a goal training discussion. After these conditions, teams were sent back to the geocaching competition. The goal-training teams reported a higher increase in team cohesion than the video game team, but the video game team scored significantly higher in the second round of the game itself. The researches concluded that the immediately noticeable effects were not dependent on how much experience the participants had with video games. In fact, players that were novices tended to be more readily able to establish communication norms, and build working relationships.Video games bring teams togetherThe games chosen for the experiment were games agreed to require team coordination. Video games are an optimal productivity booster because it exercises so many fundamental aspects of maximizing focus. It reinforces repetition, it inspires both trust and communication between employees, and it positively impacts part of the brain responsible for memory, information organizations, and fine motor skills. The study acknowledged that using video games to inspire bonds works best with employees that dont already know each other. They went so far as to imply the contrary might even be likely to reinforce biases and negative relations hitherto developed. Still, lead researcher Mark Kieth, feels optimistic at the prospect of utilizing alternative methods of boosting productivityVideo gaming may truly be a viable - and perhaps even optimal - alternative for team building, Keith said.

How To Write A Business Plan

How To Write A Business Plan How To Write A Business PlanPosted September 5, 2019, by EleshaA great geschftlicher umgang plan could be the key to turning your entrepreneurial dreams into real geschftlicher umgang successAbusiness plancan help you secure finance, get clear on your vision, guide your business journey and evaluate opportunities. Lets take a look at what a business plan is, the traditional vs lean option and how to write one. What Is A Business Plan?A business plan is a document that details the opportunity for your product or service, an outline of your company, market analysis, key financial details and action plan.It outlines the strategy on how you plan to get fromwhere your business is today towhere you want your business to be in three to five years from now - greater profitability and increased assets, etc.A business plan plays a crucial role in convincing banks, investors and other supporters to fund you to grow your business and sets out the financial goals, proj ections and cover funding requirements.Aside from securing funding, your plan is an important tool youll regularly reference to -Prioritise business activities and come up with new ideasHelp identify and maximise opportunitiesA solid business plan is your tool to navigate the ups and downs of launching and growing a business. It will keep you on track and if its good enough, convince investors to fund your plans.Do I Need A Business Plan?Every business needs a plan but the question is -which one is the best fit for you? A traditional plan or a leaner, one or two-page plan?Traditional vs lean business planTraditional business plans are more detailed usually take longer and require more research to complete. They project three to five years into the future and outline all the details that can contribute to the success of the business. On the other hand, a lean plan is usually only a page or two which requires less time to put together and may only project 12 months ahead. It might be s hort, but it still needs to communicate the future of the business in a clear, articulate manner. How To Write A Business PlanReady to get started on your business plan? Lets dive into the elements youll need to include and 3 tips for writing a great business plan.Tip 1 - Watch the length (yes, even for traditional plans)You dont want to go over the top with content because a) you actually want people to read it (100 pages? No-one has time for that) and b) its intended to be a tool youll refer to often.Because youll use the plan to run and grow your business, it needs to be short enough to refine and revise as needed. A monster plan is likely to be shoved into a desk drawer and never referenced again.Tip 2 - Dont sweat the detailsWriting a business plan might feel overwhelming but it doesnt need to be. Dont get caught up in making it perfect - you might even want to start with a lean one-page plan and build a more detailed business plan later on.Tip 3 - Know your audienceWho will be reading your business plan - a bank or potential investors? Youll need to tailor it according to the audience - like you would tailor a job application for a specific role. Do your research and understand how your investors work, their past investment decisions and be clear on the synergy with your business opportunity. What Youll Need To Include In Your Business PlanExecutive summaryAn overview of your business and plan, the executive summary comes first - although fruchtwein business owners write it after theyve completed the plan. Keep it to one or two pages.Outline the opportunityHeres where you answer the question - how does the product or service you are selling solve a need in the market? Outline your target market and competition. How will you execute your plan? This section covers how you plan to grow the business and should include a absatzwirtschaft and sales plan, KPIs, strategy and milestones.Company structureHow will your management team and other staff be structured? Who will you need to hire? If your business is already up and running, you can include a brief overview of your current team, history and legal structure.Financial planA very important part of your business plan Youll need to include a sales forecast, expenses budget, cash flow statement, balance sheet, and a profit and loss statement.Supporting documentationThis is the appendix where you can include any additional information relevant to your plans, like product images, rental agreements, licenses, permits, patents and trademark documentation and marketing materials.A Lean Business PlanOpting for the lean approach? Writing a one-page plan is also a useful exercise because it forces you to get right to the point of what youre doing and think critically about your business. Follow the same structure for the traditional business plan covered above butsimply write 2 to 3 sentences about each point.Starting your business is an exciting (and scary) time. 5 Myths That Prevent Job Seekers from Overcoming Failure

5 Myths That Prevent Job Seekers from Overcoming Failure5 Myths That Prevent Job Seekers from Overcoming Failure For many people, the job search is a mysterious and frustrating process. Unless youre a recruiter or hiring manager , you usually dont have a good idea of what goes on behind the scenes - and because of that, people tend to come up with their own ideas of what happens, and what it takes to be successful.Often, this works like a game of telephone You may start out with a grain of truth, but it will get repeated and altered so many times that it ends up being completely misinterpreted. As a result, buying into these common sense ideas and pieces of advice can actually end up hurting your chances of scoring your dream job.So if youve been hearing rejection after rejection lately - or worse, no responses at all - its time to set things straight. Read up on the most pervasive job search myths out there, what the facts of the matter are and how you can tweak your job search for better results. So many job seekers think their odds of hearing back are directly proportional to how many times they blast their resume out to recruiters. There is some merit to the idea that youll need to apply to multiple opportunities, but taking a total spray-and-pray approach is one of the worst things you can do.While applying to more jobs does increase profil callbacks, remember bedrngnis to sacrifice quality for quantity. Recruiters will quickly trash applications that are generic or a poor fit, says Christopher K. Lee, Career Consultant and founder of Purpose Redeemed .Instead, you should focus your job search on jobs you really want, and jobs where you compete against the best applicants in the pool, adds career concierge and hiring consultant Kim Stiens of Ranavain .And if you really want to stand out, customize each application you submit, says Cheryl E. Palmer, Executive Career Coach and owner of Call to Career .Carefully review the vacancy anno uncements for different positions and then tailor your cover letter accordingly so that you can convince a hiring manager that you are right for the job, Palmer recommends. On the opposite end of the spectrum, some job seekers are hesitant to apply to any job with a description that doesnt match their skills and experience 100 percent. Many job seekers refrain from applying to positions where they dont meet all the listed qualifications . This is a shame because some of them would excel in those roles, says Lee. Truth is, job requirements are often a wish list. Few applicants will meet all the points.A good rule of thumb if you match at least 75-80 percent of the requirements, its worth applying.Speak to how strong you are in the other areas, and highlight any areas of experience which demonstrate youll be able to pick up the lacking skill quickly, recommends business coach Dave Labowitz .While qualifications are important, theyre only part of the equation.Too many job seekers belie ve they should get the job because they have experience. Yes, experience is important, but it doesnt help you stand out, says career coach and resume writer Melanie L. Denny . Rather than simply assuming youll get the job due to your stellar track record, focus on the value you have produced for past employers in the form of achievements, she recommends.Abedrngnisher reason hiring managers may choose a less qualified candidate is if they prove to be a better culture fit . If you have all of the necessary skills, but dont seem like you could work well with others at the company, thats a big red flag. One way to combat this is by only applying to companies that you know you would be compatible with. But if youve already found a good match, you can prove youre a good culture fit in your application materials - particularly your cover letter. Which leads us to myth number fourSure, not every recruiter or hiring manager will read a cover letter - but enough do that its still worth t aking the time to write one, says Stiens. While some hiring managers dont read them, a lot still do, and for those hiring managers, your cover letter is at least as important as your resume. While a resume is a fairly rote, formulaic document, cover letters are your place to show your personality and show how you operate on the job, she explains.Cover letters can especially help demonstrate the oh-so-important aforementioned culture fit. With todays companies caring far more about cultural fit than ever before, a cover letter is your opportunity to show them who you are, not just what youve done. This will differentiate you from other applicants and increase the likelihood of an interview, Labowitz says.To demonstrate that culture fit, share relevant anecdotes from your career.Soft skills are key, and using anecdotes in your cover letter are the most effective way to demonstrate them in an application, Stiens recommends. And remember - no one-size-fits-all cover letters. You should s ubmit unique, custom cover letters for each job you apply to (though you can certainly recycle material and anecdotes that are relevant to multiple jobs). So you satisfy most of the job requirements and have a great resume and cover letter that share what you could bring to the company that other candidates couldnt. And yet, you still arent hearing back from recruiters. What gives?Several of my clients think having a strong resume is enough to get them the job but if you dont get that resume in front of the right person (your potential future boss) and sell yourself in an interview, you wont be hired, Denny says. Make sure you are strategic about marketing yourself and master the art of selling your value to a hiring manager. The best way to do that, experts agree, is to network . If you know somebody at a company you want to apply to, ask if theyd be comfortable referring you. If you dont know anybody at the company, look online to see who you can connect with and send them a friend ly email or LinkedIn message requesting an informational interview. If all goes well, you can ask them for a referral.Dont get too in your head about who you should be connecting with. Some job seekers think I cant reach out to people I worked with 10 years ago and havent spoken with since then - it would be an imposition, says Career/Executive Coach Tammy Gooler Loeb . But put yourself in their shoes. If this person reached out to you after 10 years, would you feel imposed on or flattered that they contacted you? More often the latter, and youd likely be happy to do anything you can to be helpful to them, she points out.And dont hesitate to connect with somebody just because theyre not directly recruiting or hiring for the role. Most people find their next meaningful role through a third-, fourth- or fifth-degree connection and how they reached that point may likely have been through a string of connections that are not necessarily in your industry or doing a role similar to yours , Gooler Loeb says. Think of those people you know who seem to know everybody and ask them who they know may be good people for you to speak with to learn more about companies that are growing or hiring.

Before hiring a new employee, be sure they have these 5 traits

Before hiring a new employee, be sure they have these 5 traitsBefore hiring a new employee, be sure they have these 5 traitsWhen building your team, there is elendhing more important than hiring someone who not only is good at what they do but who is also going to mesh well with both the rest of your employees and your clients/customers. A business is nothing without its employees. And in my 14 years of owning a business, great employees have helped mydigital marketing agencybecome what it is today. When an employee moves on or we look to expand, these are the five qualities I look for in a hireAdaptabilityDigital marketing is a fast-paced field. You need to be constantly evolving and ready to research and learn on your own. This means having the right mindset to want to learn and change and put new skills to the test. If you dont have this spark and flexibility, you wont last long in marketing.ResourcefulnessMarketing is a fast-paced environment. And when you have multiple clients an d multiple responsibilities, being able to manage your time is essential A good hire will have proven time management skills and be able to accomplish his or her tasks on time and with little-to-no supervision.A keen eye for the small stuffYou want someone who is detail oriented. Whether its reading an article 50 times, making 20 revisions on a website or simply paying attention to the colors and logo specs for a clients brochure, a good hire is detail oriented. It doesnt matter the job responsibilities or position title details are crucial to any business. Noticing details starts with the hiring process. Ill often get resumes with grammatical errors or even worse, spelling errors. Those go immediately in the trash. If a potential employee doesnt care enough to put their best foot forward for a possible future boss, why would they for a client down the road?Multi-tasking abilityfruchtwein companies these days are looking for someone whos not afraid to work outside their job descript ions. My agency is no different. Weve worked to break down silos between departments so our employees can have a holistic view of the entire marketing process. Along with this, in marketing, every client will have unique needs for their business goalsand youll have to learn to meet those goals. I look for hires with an ability to juggle tasks effectively without letting any drop.OpennessCulture fit is critical. This is key for both how the hire interacts with your team and how he or she interacts with current and potential clients. If a person doesnt gel with my team or cant handle talking with clients, its a sign they might not work out with job long term. At my agency, we utilize a trial period to ensure our new hires are slam dunks. During our introductory period, if it seems like the employee doesnt fit our culture, has difficulty interacting with clients or perhaps the employee just didnt like the work, we can part ways.
